Driving to Gatlinburg

The second part of our visit to Michigan was to pick up Rich and Chi and grab my parents from the airport and all head down to Gatlinburg Tennessee and see the leaves changing colors.
We all piled into Donald's raised Ford Excursion and headed out.

It's only an 8 hour drive from Michigan.
A quick stop along the way at Chick-Fil-A.

The obligatory "Joe driving" photo from Theresa.

During a bathroom stop, we happened upon a Krystal!  This is the first time I've ever had both White Castles (for breakfast this morning) and Krystals in the same day.

And Mom loved the fact that there was a freestanding Starbucks right next door.

We ran into a bit of traffic once we got to Gatlinburg (lots of people coming to see the leaves), then stopped at the one grocery store to load up on groceries for the week.

We had an interesting drive up the mountain in the dark.  Thankfully we didn't encounter anyone else coming down this "2" lane road as we were heading up.  This vehicle is so big, I don't think anyone would be able to squeeze around us.  The turns were very sharp and the roads were so narrow.  Our cabin just happened to be at the very top of the hill and the driveway was super steep as well.  So much so that Theresa, Sheila and Chi all got out of the car and helped guide me as I backed the car down.

Once we unpacked and figured out rooms, we made dinner.

Then settled in the living room to chill for the rest of the night.  The debate was on in the main room.

And there was football on in the master bedroom.

This was meant to be a relaxing vacation, so we just woke up whenever the next morning.  Dad made english muffin sandwiches for breakfast.

We didn't get to see any of this view last night because it was way too dark.  Here's the view from the top of the driveway and just at the bottom you can see the roof of the house.  Nice job on picking the place Theresa!

A view from the driveway.

The wood path to walk to the door.

And the real highlight of this cabin.  The awesome deck with an amazing view!

The "smoky" part of the Great Smoky Mountains.

And a 360 view from the deck! Remember you can zoom in to see more detail.
